Happy 4th of July!!
What a great day! When I was a kid, the 4th of July outweighed Christmas as my favorite holiday, at least when I was over 8-9 and started my study of pyrotechnics every June, leading up to explosions day. That lasted through high school. Then in College we had a great time going to Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho and joining in the lakeside celebrations. When I left college and became employed it started to get semi-boring for a over a decade. After I had 2 boys and could watch the Fourth through their eyes it become a great time again. Once they grew up, another season of boredom set in about Independence. Then came 2 grandsons. As I prepare today to go watch the Fourth throught the eyes of the older one (4 years,) I am back in business!
I have been not writing much as I watch the historic events day to day at this moment in history. It is all exciting and new each day. We have to go through chaos to move to a better level as a country. Some days it is exhilarating and some days it feels like hell. I try to remember the Winston Churchil quote, When you are going through hell, keep going.
I ususally take a while, about a week, to write these blogs. Lateley if 2-3 days go by there is more, new interesting news and my draft looks obsolete. Very fast moving and exciting times. We are digging ourselves out from 4 years of open borders, increasing crime, 2 wars and changing of global powers, “Transexuals,” word police and a fierce worldwide battle over immigration. On top of that is AI, which will turn out to be huge but unpredictable. Then there is the fear of Nuclear weapons, dreaded epidemics, spying, and lying. Some of the main liars are starting to fall like rotten peaches off of the trees. No side is innocent of lying. But there seems to be a lot more peaches on the left side of the tree.
It looks like chaos, but it is growing pains. We are not at war, but half the country is flipping out saying we are. We knew this 4 years of Trump was going to be a barage of screaming, ranting and gnashing of teeth! But the crazies always outdo themselves. Opinions of the people give us little reliable information. Before the attack on Pearl Harbor, a significant majority of Americans opposed entering World War II. While exact figures varied by poll and time, polls consistently showed strong opposition, with percentages showing, on average, over 60% of Americans were very against war with Nazis. Now we have half of the country protesting against war when there is none, and claiming Republicans are Nazis. We must not let emotion driven public polls be a factor in deciding what is best for our country. Pray for wisdom!
Mass Hysteria is “normal”
Half of the country is hysterical. I have my opinion on what half and I do a lousy job of hiding my bias. I have been a political junkie since I was 7 years old. The first episode of crazy was in 1968 with the Chicago riots. I was a Eugene McCarthy Democrat that year. Do you remember why people were rioting? Human nature has proven itself to be susceptible to a lot of false notions. The man below, Charles Mackay was a student of these mass delusions in the early 1800’s and the ensuing mass hysteria. He discovered that:
His Book Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds (1852) used to be considered mandatory reading for new investment professionals. But no one reads now. At least not many. The crisus du jour is enough for most people, while disregarding the real issue that creates market anomalies, i.e., Human Nature.
We can see that there is a growing group of people moving slowly until one day a light bulb goes on over their head and boom, they are different. One by one. Sasha Stone, right here on Substack is a great example of that. She completely changed her view of reality. She was formerly a entertainment writer who was known for covering the Oscars. She provides very interesting insights and sometimes is first to report big stories. She is at:
That is all for now. I tried going through the new bill, but since it is so hard to find and read at this point I will wait to dissect it. I believe the bill will be positive for growth and the stock market. More soon on that.
Thanks for reading!
See you soon,
